Earth Day in High School

On 22nd April, Earth Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Carmel Convent School. The celebration began with a solemn prayer for Mother Earth, where students and teachers expressed gratitude for nature’s gifts and prayed for the preservation of the planet. A short skit titled “The Power is in Our Hands” conveyed a strong message about individual responsibility towards the environment.. Adding color and energy to the program, students also performed beautiful dances themed on nature, trees, water, and wildlife. A street play was performed by the students to reinforce the importance of sustainable living.

Newly appointed Eco Club members were conferred their badges and took an oath to uphold environmental values and actively contribute towards a cleaner and greener school environment. The Principal encouraged them to be responsible leaders in promoting eco-friendly practices. A significant highlight of the celebration was the Eco Pledge, where students and staff collectively promised to reduce waste, conserve water, avoid plastic, and take responsible steps toward protecting the environment. This was followed by the singing of the Eco Anthem, which was written and composed by the sisters of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation.

A tree plantation drive was conducted in the school campus with the active involvement of the NSS, School Cabinet, and Eco Club Cabinet. Students and teachers planted saplings, symbolizing their commitment to a greener and healthier environment. An awareness rally was also organized, where students carried banners and posters and raised slogans highlighting the importance of conserving natural resources and reducing pollution. The rally aimed to spread awareness and inspire collective action within the community.

The Earth Day celebration was part of a weeklong “Eco Week” observed from 13th to 22nd April 2026, organized by the Environment Club for Classes VI to X. During this period, various activities were conducted to engage students creatively and meaningfully.

Class VI students participated in a personification activity, presenting themselves as elements of nature such as the Earth, trees, rivers, air, water, and the ozone layer. Class VII students created posters on the theme “Save the Planet—Plant More Trees,” promoting simple and practical environmental actions. Class VIII focused on the concept of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, Class X carried out a “Food Label Investigation,” analyzing packaged food items, identifying harmful ingredients, and suggesting healthier and eco-friendly alternatives.
