80th Independence Day Celebrated with Patriotic Fervour at Carmel Convent School
Carmel Convent School celebrated the 80th Independence Day on 15th August 2026 with great gusto and cheer. The celebrations began with the Management and the school band welcoming the Chief Guest, Commander Gaurav Pant, Commanding Officer, NCC Naval Unit, Chandigarh, who hoisted the Tricolour amid the singing of the national anthem.
Following the flag hoisting, the Principal felicitated the Chief Guest, after which students of Classes 5 and 7 presented a special programme. The performance took the audience through a moving tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation's independence, before journeying forward to depict a modern, Viksit Bharat and its rich cultural diversity.
This was followed by the presentation of trophies and certificates to the awardees of credence by the School Principal, Sr Shanta, who also commended the Cabinet for their valuable contributions. The programme continued with the Investiture Ceremony of the Bharat Scouts and Guides Cabinet, conducted by the Principal, the Manager, and BSG officials of the school.
The Chief Guest appreciated the programme, remarking on its nostalgic and solemn tone and the spirit of unity in diversity reflected in the spellbinding performances. He urged the students to dream big, work hard, and always place the nation above all else, quoting the words of Sir Philip Chetwode inscribed at Chetwood Hall, Indian Military Academy:
"Country First: The safety, honour, and welfare of your country come first, always and every time.
Men Next: The honour, welfare, and comfort of the men you command come next.
Self Last: Your own ease, comfort, and safety come last, always and every time."
The Principal, in her address, appreciated the programme and extended warm wishes to all for a Happy Independence Day, urging everyone to keep the spirit of independence alive. The programme concluded with the singing of the school anthem.The NSS volunteers also distributed Tirangas to keep up the Har Ghar Tiranga Spirit, the and helped in the school discipline.
