November 10, 2023 was an exciting day at Carmel with two back-to-back celebrations- Diwali and Children’s Day. The day had a vibrant air about it as children turned up in festive wear instead of the usual school uniform. The auditorium was decorated with lights, colourful rangolis and was filled with happy faces, eagerly awaiting the events to unfold. The program began with the lighting of the lamp by the Principal Sister Shanta, Manager Sister Sumita, Vice Principal Sister Sefali, Sister Satya and Sister Humbeline along with the class teachers of class VI.

This was followed by prayers and hymns seeking the blessings of the almighty on this auspicious occasion. This was followed by a presentation showing how different cultures celebrate Diwali in India and a skit “No Crackers”.

On this occasion the students organized a rally where they shouted slogans and carried posters with “Say No to Crackers” written on them.

The second part of the program was by the staff to celebrate the students on Children’s Day. It started with a prayer for the wellbeing of all Carmelites, followed by a soulful song by the Sisters.

Next was a Punjabi play that brought out peels of joyful laughter, mostly because the students loved the teachers making jokes while dressed up in typical Punjabi hairdos and outfits. A medley of some foot tapping numbers was next as the teachers belted out some popular songs.

In the end the teachers along with Sister Shanta and Sister Sefali performed the Gidda, sending the audience into a frenzy of joy. Before closing for the Diwali break, Principal Sister Shanta wished the students a safe Diwali and a happy children’s day.
