“Out of the long list of nature’s gifts to man,
None is perhaps so utterly essential to human life as soil.”
Taking yet another step taken towards our goal of a sustainable earth, the eco-club of Carmel Convent School organized a seminar on soil conservation for the students.
The guest and speaker for today’s event, Dr. Mona Chopra was presented a planter as a token of appreciation. The event began with the displaying of some illuminating slides about the topic. Dr Chopra began with a discussion about the problems faced by the environment. The issue of soil erosion and soil damage being ignored and how it’s time to take global action was highlighted.
The students were informed about how the soil is getting eroded, losing its organic content and is turning into sand which does not contain any nutrients. The students were also shown a video that acquainted them about how the nutritional value in our food is getting affected. The video also showcased the “SAVE SOIL MOVEMENT” started by ‘Sadhguru’.
Some possible solutions for this problem were also discussed. The students were motivated to spread awareness among their friends and family and even spread awareness on social media. It was discussed how soil-0saving policies should be made by the government of all countries and how 11 countries have already signed up for this cause.
The students were asked to write letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to take action on this issue. Towards the end the conscious planet anthem was played so that the students could get more inspired. All the students danced to the beats of the anthem. Everyone enjoyed this immensely.
